Fire of Love

Why we chose this film

“What’s your purpose in life?” is a question that every individual seeks to answer within themselves.

Finding purpose or meaning is a unique journey that varies from person to person.

Is meaning something we find or something we create?

This depends largely on how actively we choose to engage in life. While some see it as an ultimate goal, others view it as something they create with each step they take.

We often want to believe that we have control over our destiny. Though life can be unpredictable and uncontrollable, we have the power to choose how we respond and react to it, doing the best we can in the meantime.

Film Summary

Fire of Love tells the story of two French lovers, Katia and Maurice Krafft, who died in a volcanic explosion doing the very thing that brought them together: unraveling the mysteries of our planet, while simultaneously capturing the most explosive volcano imagery ever recorded.

Along the way, they changed our understanding of the natural world, and saved tens of thousands of lives. Previously unseen hours of pristine 16-millimeter film and thousands of photographs reveal the birth of modern volcanology through an unlikely lens -- the love of its two pioneers.
